I am wondering if WOTA  has any rule  that states what is  a legal helmet to run at an AMA  insured event.  I am pretty sure  all along we have tried to mirror  what the NATC  has  done  and I am thinking  it would be smart to propose all riders where  a Motorcycle type helmet  which is basically fiberglass or carbon/glass composite  or somn thick plastic shell with ample padding  .  I am leary of  a bicycle style heads piece actually offering much protection .  I say if there is a rule enforce it  and if not we need to write one.  I don't want our insurance denied  or someone getting injured from  wanting to go super light and super cool at safeties expense.  Basically  bicycle helmets  You can pretty much push a screwdriver through the thin shell  I would say that's not  a protective enough helmet Any Thoughts?Huh

I was actually wondering what the rules were for AMA events. I've been riding trials with a DOT approved dirt bike helmet, but have a Giro adventure helmet that I bought for snowboarding. With the ear pads out and the vents open, it's lighter, cooler and less restrictive than the dirt bike helmet. Just wasn't sure what the rules are.

I wouldn't even consider a bicycle helmet, though.

This is what it says:

Q. What safety gear is required?

A. All riders must have a DOT or European equivalent helmet, gloves, pants, long-sleeve shirt, boots that go over the ankles, bar pad and disk protectors, and a lanyard style motor killing device.

I wore a short sleeve shirt at 4 rounds in 2018, it was over 90 degrees in Arkansas.  The shirt has to have your last name on the back.

The WOTA rules state AMA or FIM helmet required, rest of gear (boots, gloves, shirt, pan ts, eye protection) is recommended.
