You have coolant in the radiator, and the fan comes on after riding 10 minutes or so, correct?

It could be a bad crankcase seal, or some type of air leak into the crankcase, or intake manifold air leak.

Jon Stoodley (jse) is a good source of trouble shooting info.  He hangs out at the site below and often answers questions:

Jim Snell (or his staff) is a good source as well.

I have a 2002 GG 280 Edition (that runs well).  I also have a compression tester that you can borrow. You are welcome to bring your bike by and we can do some trouble shooting. I live about 20 minutes North of Milwaukee, in Mequon.  I will send you a P.M.
