The June 12 Black River Falls event is the set for the same day that the AHRMA national trials is in Elkhart Lake, WI.  This also happened last year.

Hi Bryan,

If a modern trials guy wanted to ride the Elkhart Lake event, would he need to join AHRMA in order to ride?  What class would he ride in?

Or would he be just tagging along, riding with the vintage guys, and messing around?  Or just looking at old bikes?

Thanks.

Dave, you do need to get an Ahrma membership to compete.  The classes are set both by era of bike and by the riders skill level.  You are riding against bikes of the same vintage in your subjective class.  Modern bikes are also allowed to ride, just in their own class.

I just received this response from the AHRMA National Trials Coordinator (Ed/Evelyn Peacock) :

" ...At most all events, we have been having a “Support Class” for non-AHRMA legal bikes which includes the newer twin-shock bikes and modern mono-shock bikes. The lines to be ridden are the AHRMA lines 1 thru 4. The line you would ride would be based on your skill level; however, championship level sections are not available and the AHRMA no-stop rules apply. I assume you are currently riding modern events and based upon a comparison of modern lines, the 3 line would be okay for a Novice rider and the 2-line for an Amateur or a lower skilled Intermediate rider. The 1-line is for higher skilled Intermediate riders and above riders, including the NATC “Clubman” line riders. A beginner would ride the 4-line. Although these lines are probably easier than you normally ride at a modern event, the modern bikes do not have an advantage based upon the AHRMA no-stop rule...

...In filling out the entry form, about 2/3 of the way down the form there is a section marked “Other”. This is where you would indicate that you are riding “Modern-Support” and identify the line that you plan to ride (Line-1; 2; or 3 etc). ... Rob Poole was the trials master last year and he will be the trials master again this year. Last year they did have one support class rider at Road America so I am assuming that they will have the support classes again this year if they have riders.
AHRMA membership is not required to ride the “support class” since this is not a recognized AHRMA classification and you will not receive points towards an AHRMA year-end championship. Should you wish to join AHRMA to receive the monthly magazine, you are welcome to do so..."

So - it looks like AHRMA membership is not required to ride the Modern-Support class at Elkhart Lake Road America and June 12, 2011.

I also mentioned to Evelyn that WOTA sets the event schedule in late October each year.  I let her know, that if AHRMA is interested, they could let us know when their 2012 event will be, and then WOTA would have the opportunity to possibly accomodate the AHRMA Trials date.

I'd like to see it moved to the 10th.  I would be available to help with sign up.  I don't really know what I'm doing, but can help out if someone can tell me what to do.

I'm planning to ride the Nitro event on the 17th and won't be able to make it to Mauston on the 17th.
