Sportsman of the Year, it's a No-Brainer
The AMA had 400 different champions to choose from. To say the our little 'Wisconsin Wonder' didn't earn this nomination would be disingenuous. Let me be the first to say, good luck Patrick.
AMA Sports Athlete of the Year Nominees:
Trey Canard, Elk City, Oklahoma, Motocross
Zac Chapman, Weatherford, Texas, Road Racing
Michael Lafferty, Estell Manor, New Jersey, Enduro
David Pearson, Las Vegas, Nevada, Hare & Hound
Patrick Smage, Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Observed Trials

Re: Sportsman of the Year, it's a No-Brainer
We are back and quite surprised and pleased to announce that Patrick did indeed win the top athlete award which is the final and most prestigious award of the evening , in 30 years the only trials riders to be on that list are Bernie, Scottt Head ans Geoff AAron . We will try to post picture of Pat and his fine awards on Smageshercosales site soon. The Endurocross was very crazy Phil had the 6th fastesthot lap out of 36 extremely well known riders but in his semi heat Kieth Wineland got pretty sideways off of a big double log jump and hit Phil in air as the landing pretzeled Phils front wheel he was done for the night go to cyclenews for full story on the coverage. cheers
