1  Classifieds / For Sale / 2001 GasGas Txt 280 on: July 03, 2012, 01:02:33 PM
Hi All,

I have a 2001 GasGas TXT 280 for sale.  It starts first kick almost every time even after sitting a while.  It is in overall great shape for its age.  I just don't have the time or interest to mess around with it any more.  I have always run full syn in it and it has been taken care of as long as I have owned it, stored inside, etc.  Now the bad part.  It starts on the first kick and runs great for about 10 minutes, then just bogs down and stops. Have to choke again to get it started but isn't the same until it sits awhile again. It also has a flat front tire, which just needs a new tube, just haven't gotten around to that.  Anyways, I have $2,250 into it but would like to get somewhere around 2k for it.  Make a reasonable offer, I just cant bare to see it sit in the garage and rot away anymore.  Email at krezins2 at gmail or two six two three zero eight seven six four nine. I'm in Franklin, WI.

I have:

- cleaned the carb
- put in a new needle and seat
- checked the tank and petcock and tried to run it on reserve.
- checked the fuel filter on the carb. I am running an inline filter but that seems to be flowing fine.  (I plan on removing that as soon as I can get some new lines)
- I did crack the drain screw and fuel came out, but I also messed with it a bit so that's fuzzy data.
- I keep hearing that the floats have to be parallel to the ground/bowl but I'm not really positive on how to check that.  I assume that when I push the floats up the "tang" should be parallel to the ground when the needle hits the seat?
- New Plugs
- Jetting is all correct for sea level. (114 main, 36 pilot, 2nd clip on the needle)
- Bike runs great when its running.

What year/model is your Gas Gas?

2001 txt 280.  Not the pro or edition.

I have also tried the fuel cap/breather. It is venting fine.  I started it and road around the other day, it will start with the choke on after it dies if I kick it 5-10 times. But will then only run a few minutes or less.

I've called rising sun and ordered a few parts from them, none of which were the problems that I had.  I don't even know where to start.  I thought it was a sticky needle and seat but replaced that and its now still stalling after 5-15 minutes of riding.  Then it's very hard to start up again and often won't until it sits for a while or I choke it and kick away, then it still doesn't run right... I'm not even sure if its the carb now or if maybe its electrical... It runs great and starts on the first kick but once it decides to cut out, the games over.

Cliff notes
- Bike will run for a little while then die, and become hard to start, if I let it sit then it will start again.
- fuel flows from the petcock but will not go into the carb, big air bubble can't even get gas in blowing down the tube.
- Plug is slightly oily
- Tried shortening up the fuel line, tank vent is clear.
- Jetting is 114 main, 36 pilot, needle 2nd clip from the top

Anyone have any experience with a good dealer for a gasgas trials bike near Milwaukee? (Yes, I was the guy in Mauston with the GG that wouldn't stay running)

Thanks,

Steve

Hi All,

Just got a new to me 01 GasGas txt280 and wanted to introduce myself.  I'm new to trials so hopefully I can have some fun hacking it up on the novice line.  A buddy (o3 Beta Rev 250) and I are planning on making it to this event so I guess we will see some of you soon!

Thanks for holding such an event like this so we can get out and ride!
