Title: Hixton Trials Post by: Caballero on June 17, 2007, 08:05:52 AM Dave Schigoda, Dan Salton, Jesse and I worked on the trials sections yesterday. We have 8 sections picked out and are in need of some manpower to finish them up.
I will go up with anyone willing to help set up and get things ready for the event. There are at least 6-8 hrs of work left for a crew of 3-4 people, as all of these sections are new and need some brushing out, this does not include ribboning and signing. Remember that these are all new sections are are totally different that the traditional Hixton sections. A "BIG THANKS" to Dave and Dan for coming out to help. Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Hare Trigger on June 17, 2007, 09:35:42 AM That was one tough days work. I was sacked by the end of the day (we spent 7 solid hours walking up and down hills, clearing ferns and brush, swinging machetes, sawing with saws...). I was happy to help out Jorge - it's cool to take some virgin woods, get a picture in your mind of what could be done with it, and turn it into a trials section. A lot of work, but cool. 8)
I'll work on a map today that will lay out where the 8 sections are. There are a couple of sections that are pretty well figured out where the different lines would be. In these sections enough trees are marked to give an idea of the boundaries. But most of the sections are just a general "put section here" type of thing, that have the worst of the clearing done, but with boundaries pretty much unmarked and class lines not completely figured out. Like Jorge said, there's still at least a full days work for a crew to do. I won't be able to make any more trips up there before July 22, but hopefully others will be able to help Jorge out. If you haven't ridden at CMJ Raceway before (the raceway property itself, not the quarry where the old Hixton trial was held), then you'll find big hills, fairly sandy soil, and a general shortage of rocks. Expect to do a lot of hill climbing, descending and side-cutting. Should be fun! Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Hare Trigger on June 17, 2007, 03:45:00 PM OK, here's a map: http://local.live.com/?v=2&cid=D454939D0F6FC466!180&encType=1 (http://local.live.com/?v=2&cid=D454939D0F6FC466!180&encType=1)
I'll make hard-copies of this and bring them to the trial on July 22 to hand out to riders during registration. Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Caballero on June 17, 2007, 03:59:35 PM Thanks again Dan, the riders will really appreciate the maps. They look great. 8)
Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: alte on June 17, 2007, 10:03:22 PM The map is most cool. Never saw that before.
I went a stem further, and viewed the baraboo hills. Then clicked on 3d, and flew up mt.whitney in CA. It's like a travel video game. Lotsa fun! Will look forward to the new hixton. Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: dschigoda on June 18, 2007, 11:11:29 AM Hey, that was a fun day in the woods on Saturday. I had so much fun, I had to take a long nap on Sunday afternoon to recover! :P Thanks for the maps and text Dan. Its perfect for directing the remaining section development/marking, navigating, motivation, communication, memory, etc. I thought the four of us worked well together (Jesse included) on Saturday, very creative, and got a lot done together! I plan on driving out again on Friday afternoon, July 20th, probably camp at the KOA (or ?). I would then be available to work all Saturday 10-12 hours, and for a few hours Sunday morning (8am-10am?). I will bring a working chainsaw ::), weedeater, tape, etc.
Title: Re: Hixton Trials - Ribbon - Cheap source? - styrofoam pie plate test- notes Post by: dschigoda on June 19, 2007, 10:39:36 AM Does anyone know of a cheap source for red, blue and yellow ribbon? :-\ We will need a lot of it for Hixton.
I am conducting a test on styrofoam pie plate "markers" in my woods, to see how they hold up to rain, sun, animals, etc. It would seem to me that they would be less affected by rain than paper plates (so we can put them up earlier if needed). They do take magic marker just fine, and the plate and markings are both waterproof. ::) I plan to add more detailed notes to Dan's section text when I get time later in the week, in order to capture some of the details of our ideas (from last Saturday) of where the novice, intermediate and advanced lines could be, for most of the sections. That way Jorge and others could use the text as a guide for early layout work, and markings, and still take advantage of what we already discovered and discussed. ;) Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: alte on June 19, 2007, 01:06:01 PM I have a lot of ribbon that I will bring to polo this Sunday.
Mark Doll has ribbon too that can be had after his July 1st event. He uses http://www.gemplers.com/groups/flagging-tape.aspx for ribbon which he buys in lots of 144 rolls. I will be at Hixton sat or sun the week before the event, to help as needed. Jim Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Caballero on June 20, 2007, 05:15:58 AM Thanks Jim, Let's carpool that weekend. ;D
Anyone else? Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Caballero on June 25, 2007, 08:40:53 PM Dave Schigoda can make it on Sunday the 15th. Does that work for you Jim?
Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: alte on June 26, 2007, 10:53:48 AM that sunday is good for me
Jim Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: dschigoda on June 26, 2007, 02:51:20 PM I am assuming that the "Supersport" lines/sections will mostly be set up in the Quarry area with the Expert/Champ sections, and not the CMJ areas that Jorge, Dan and I worked on several days ago. Correct? ???
Dave Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Caballero on June 26, 2007, 06:24:13 PM I'll check with Steve K on that one. ???
Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Caballero on July 07, 2007, 06:31:19 AM I spoke with Steve and he would like Super Sport to run slightly modified Advanced lines.
Steve will take care of setting up Expert and Champ lines in the old quarry, and will will set up the rest around CMJ. The next work day will be Saturday the 14th for Steve K. and Rod Villand, and Jim A. Dave S. and I will be there on Sunday the 15th. This event will pay dual district points so the turnout should be good. If anyone else can make it out, let me know. JC Title: Re: Hixton Trials - Update Post by: Caballero on July 16, 2007, 07:19:35 AM Jim A. and I worked at Hixton yesterday and cleaned and ribboned 1 section. We still need to clean out 2 more sections and ribbon off 7 sections. I will be going out on Friday late afternoon to do what I can, but really need help on Saturday to finish the sections.
We have 2 Champ/Expert sections at CMJ and the rest should be at the quarry. I will be staying at the KOA campground in Hixton if you need to find me. Dan and Dave, I did not like the section on the up road and found a much better area on the same up road closer the the top. It is ribboned and just needs plates and splits. Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: dschigoda on July 16, 2007, 09:32:49 AM Jorge,
Do you have all the ribbon and pie plates needed for us to complete the sections on Saturday? Dave Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Caballero on July 16, 2007, 05:24:01 PM Dave,
I have all the ribbon we would need, but I thought that you were working on the plates. No big deal, just let me know and I'll get some at Sams this week. Thanks, JC Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: dschigoda on July 17, 2007, 10:25:32 AM Oh yeah. (Brain fart again ::)) I'll bring the pie plates, staple gun, sharpies.
Dave Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Caballero on July 17, 2007, 07:53:26 PM Dave, When are you planning on getting to Hixton, and what day?
I'm planning on getting to Hixton on Friday late afternoon. JC Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: dschigoda on July 18, 2007, 08:43:10 AM Jorge,
I am still planning to arrive at the Hixton KOA around 6 pm Friday. I am planning to set up the tent, etc. while its still light out. Do you want to get something to eat together around 7 pm, and go over what is left to do as far as section and loop marking and setup? If there is alot left to do, I am fine with getting up early on Saturday and getting to it. S'ok? Dave Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Caballero on July 19, 2007, 06:12:09 AM 8) Sounds great! I'm going to try to get the first two sections ribboned off on Friday afternoon, so that will only leave 5 sections to go. Club 95 has a buffet on Friday night, we can eat there if you like.
Call me Friday night after you settle in or we may be at the campground by 7:00 pm. Steve K. will be there as well as my brother Mark. PS, We will need a weed wacker for some of the entrances and exits, and I'll bring my chainsaw. :) Title: Re: Hixton Trials - Hillclimb Results? Elapsed Times? Post by: dschigoda on July 23, 2007, 10:23:21 AM That Hillclimb Event was a blast! :D
Does anyone know where we can find out the Hixton Hillclimb results and ET's for the Trials Bike Class? Dave Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: Craig Gernhardt on July 23, 2007, 07:50:23 PM A blast - yeah right. I'm in serious pain today. Anyhow, the best I got was top 6.
1) Phillip Smage 2) Brad Villand 3) Noel Smage 4) Pat Smage 5) Mark Dittman 6) Craig Gernhardt Phillip's second run up the hill was so fast, he would've placed second in the Stock class. Just under 11 seconds. 14 trials riders signed up. Everyone of the trials guys made it up in under 15 seconds. Any chance I could get some photos and the results to post on Trials Central? The results Steve sent me on the xls program doesn't open on my Mac. Title: Re: Hixton Trials Post by: dschigoda on July 24, 2007, 03:40:48 PM Here are the Hillclimb results from Chris Halverson:
