Title: anyone remember the classic yet awesome (continous section)-Steve?
Post by: northernnorm on April 07, 2015, 08:40:22 PM
I have  an urge to layout a thro0wback fun style continuous section. I am not remembering  if we used  a staging area ,where you could stop, stay on bike   but not rewalk the section that was walked as a pair with previous one. It would likely be  a champ only or maybe ch/ex  as there is  a unique sidehill goat path style climb that would be neat to ride but  would often score a 3  and that would kind of ruin a good ride on the one right before it.

  :-\
I remember them.  Were somewhat popular in the gulley where an exit not practical.  Sometimes there was a short break between the two sections...just enough room for the rider to catch his breath and start the next section.  Dismounting to walk or inspect next section not allowed.  Sometimes they also ran non stop thru the two sections.

The NATC and FIM have outlawed them (if my memory serves me correctly) at Nationals and WTC events.  But we are WOTA...we can do want we want ;D

30+ yrs ago we had some "double sections" in So. Cal.
End gates for one section were the start gates for the next so one continuous ride. The transition gate was always put in a straight/easy portion so there were no dabs taken in that area which made scoring easier.
They were used when the area created too long of a section and there wasn't room to exit one and park your bike while walking the next section.

Years ago, I recall riding a long, double section , up a long ravine at Wauzeka. We had a lot of riders in our class, riding in a large group. It really slowed our progress, with lots of long delays.  Some riders could not make it through both sections and needed a lot of assistance getting out of the ravine.  The couldn't continue up, and had trouble riding down. Once they got down, they had trouble rejoining the loop.  It didn't work out well at that event.
😜

The champ/expert class is so small, they would not have the "delay" issue.

C the beauty is that you remembered it - good or bad  we all want to leave  a legacy as most US presidents have plenty of h8ters or at least they should.  It will probably b  a champ only  thing  cheers-have yo  a day picked out  seems like Sunday we are getting  a spark mof interest    have motodave (Johnsons-I think)   and now Ron Rivenberg with Fred Sassi to help    may need  to  do  a mid day grill  with Eddie  P   cooking
