Title: Dickeyville/Platteville
Post by: khub on July 22, 2013, 05:05:03 PM
The next event is fast approaching.  August 3rd and 4th are Dickeyville/Platteville.  I will be at the Dickeyville site at 9:00 this Saturday Morning and the Platteville site at 9:00 on Sunday if anyone wants to come and help setup.  Then I will stay there all next week to finish up.  If anyone has time during next week and wants to come help I'll have my cell 319-330-6700.

Whats the camping situation there?

At the Dickeyville site there is primitive camping available and there is a rest room with running (cold) water and a park like pavillion with picnic tables.  Even my 5th wheel camper can get in and it's pretty flat area.  Can leave campers there when the  2 or 3 mile trek is made to the Platteville site or take them with you.

Kevin,

Since it's a 6+ hour round trip (380 miles) drive for me visit Dickeyville, I'd like to consolidate my set-up trip with the trials event, if possible.

I can come out on Friday, August 2nd, the day before the Trial to help finish set up (at either site).

Dave

Dave,
No problem.  It's OK if people only help at the events closer to their home (Dickeyville is the closest for me, 1.5 hours away).  I'll keep the setup progress posted so you and others will know if more help is needed thru the week.

anyone want to carpool to the Dickeyville Platteville event?

i'm located in the twin cites and it would be almost a 10 hour round trip for me. can't really justify the trip without a little help with gas money. funds are very low.

could take my pickup if need be.

btw Baraboo was amazing! thanks for all who contributed. this was my first trial in over a decade and now...i think i'm hooked!

Shari and I (and Sheldon) are all set up in the pits at Dickeyville.  Should be a great weekend to build sections.  Low of 51 deg F Friday and Saturday night and sunny with high of 66 deg F Saturday and Sunday.

Likewise Dave!

Anyone have Will Holaseks contact info. I see he lives just north of me. Maybe he will be driving down to D ville/P ville?

Not as big a crowd helping at Dickeyville, Jeff Dickau from Dubuque showed up this morning and we were joined by Mike Mauritz after lunch.  We did make good progress and have the first 7 sections set out and some weed wacking done.  Still need to chain saw some and cut out brush then make the last section.  Sunday morning at 9:00 I'll be at the Platteville site and start on those 8 sections.  Used some ribbon that Jim A had left over from the old Baraboo, so we are doing the sections old school, red on the right, blue on the left, yellow for the splits.

Got the first 5 sections done for Sunday at Platteville with the help of Mike Mauritz and Homer Weber.  Jeff is going to help me finish the last section for Dickeyville Monday late afternoon, and Pat Doll called us, he will come Tuesday to help with the last 3 Platteville sections.  Then I'll have 3 days for weed wacking, thorn bush removal, and fine tuning.  Still need to ride the sections to verify they are not too tough like Mt. Road, but I believe they are looking pretty good.

Finished Saturdays Section 8 last night with Jeff's help, finished Sunday's Sections 6, 7, and 8 today with Pat Dolls Help.  Just a little weed eating and brush removal left and put the start and end plates up Friday.

Is there an address to punch into a GPS for Dickeyville? Also if anybody "Gus" wants to carpool I'm flying solo this weekend and have room for someone in the motovan. Must supply own tent. Leaving from Fond Du Lac Friday afternoon sometime.
