Title: New place to ride
Post by: dschigoda on May 09, 2013, 09:40:27 AM
FYI - I will be checking out a new place to ride next Thursday evening, 5/16/13. It is a quarry and woods near Elkhart Lake.  I've heard that some of the guys in the club (Manatowoc Off Highway Vehicle Club) ride trials bikes there.  Has anyone else reading this been there?

Dave

are you talking elkhart lake, near sheboygan?
due to living so far away, i have not been able to help with setup at any events,
I WOULD LOVE, for an event to be that close,
i would definatly throw my hat in for voluntary work to help setup, on those weekends.
or anything else i can do to help.
im less than an hour away.

I am about 40 minutes away from the site.  Thanks for the offer to help set up an event.  I will check the place out, and join the club.  I will get a feel for whether or not the club is open to one day holding an event there.  If not, then it still could be a great place to ride. near by.  We'll see...    8)

Its about 20 miles WNW of Sheboygan, and about 4 miles NE of downtown Elkhart Lake.  Theres a fee to join the club.  I believe membership is required to ride there.  Bikes are sound tested before being allow to ride.  I will find out more next week.

Dave, I rode there a few times several years ago when I was Hare Scramble racing and it's a pretty big piece of land.  Not perfect for trials riding, unless they've set up some sections or areas just for trials since I was there, but you'll definitely have fun playing around there.

Have fun!

Thanks for the note, Dan.

Alex Bub said that there are hills and ravines there, some rocks, some logs, lots of land, like you said.  Some of the guys there have trials bikes, so maybe they have some sections carved out.  We'll see.

Murrcutio I'm not to far from you. I'm in Theresa, just south of Fond Du Lac. I'm always looking for a fun day of trials riding.

Murrcutio,
I live in Saukville, about 37 miles south of Elkhart Lake.  My practice area is near Random Lake.  Lots of rocks, tractor tires and a few utility poles, logs.  We're planning to build a "zipper" like the one at Black River Falls (out of utility poles).   No hills or ravines here though. You are welcome to join me there, just let me know when you are available.

I vacation often in Door Cty.  Yes, I'm interested in riding at your place sometime.
Dave

The club owns 66 acres with a variety of terrain.  It is actually pretty descent for trials.  You have to join the club to ride there, there are no "day passes".

I agree, it is pretty decent for trials riding, Novice through Advanced/Expert.  But if you are looking for "Champ" level terrain, you won't find it there.  No 15 foot boulders.

Also, I believe the club is limited to 70 members.  Last week they had about 15 open spots (as some past members didn't renew their membership from last year).

The club is very careful and very sensitive to their neighboors, as some neighboors are hostile to offroad motorcycling.  Bikes are sound checked, and new members must receive a walking tour of the boundaries of the property, etc.  They don't want to loose their ability to ride there, so they really stress that their members stay on the property, stay quiet, out of sight, etc.

Several of the members there have trials bikes, and a couple of them told me and Bryan that they'd like to ride with us weekly, to learn more about riding their trials bikes, and just have fun.   ;D
