Title: Re: hows dickeyville coming whos goin Post by: khub on July 30, 2012, 08:10:29 AM Had a fairly good weekend of setting up Dickeyville. Jim V. and I started bright and early Saturday at day 1 site, shortly joined by Mike and Shawn Mauritz, completed 6 sections for everybody. Then on Sunday I went to the day 2 site and got 1 section done before the rain came. Took a long break and when the sky cleared, Homer Weber, Mike, Shawn and I jumped back at it and now have 5 sections done for all classes on day 2. Mike and I (and maybe Homer) will be finishing the last 5 sections (2 for day 1 and 3 for day 2) this week, do some brush clearning, and then fixing cow damage just before the events.
Title: Re: hows dickeyville coming whos goin Post by: northernnorm on July 30, 2012, 12:10:47 PM it s already time to also start planning when to setup the Mauston fall 2 day the standard weekend prior will not work well as we have large family gathering and tickets to REO at our Co Fair so it could get tricky at least we have no or few cows roaming to knock things down if we start on say the 25th of Augie it would surprise me if K hub has much setyup energt left but maybe he is really into such punishment . also with the dry year almost no brushy growth to clear so it is pretty much just rtoll out ribbon and plate it. Yes I will consider the cheap 1 inch rolls instead of my 3 inch safety /peligro preffered tape.
Title: Re: hows dickeyville coming whos goin Post by: motodave63 on July 30, 2012, 12:46:58 PM I have not been to this event yet, so how spectator friendly is Dickeyville? Is there a day that is better than the other for the family to watch?
Title: Re: hows dickeyville coming whos goin Post by: khub on July 30, 2012, 03:26:50 PM The day one Dickeyville is the best for spectators. 6 sections that can see most of right from the road. Section go into a slate bottom creek with a few waterfalls to ride up. Them last 2 sections are a short walk into a cow pasture. Day 2 there are two areas, both require crossing a creek. The first has 5 sections and a narrow metal plank across the creek that can be walked across, the other 3 sections would require walking thru the creek, and is a lot further walk. The water is low, so is only 6 to 10 inches deep.
Title: Re: hows dickeyville coming whos goin Post by: khub on July 31, 2012, 04:57:37 PM Monday Mike, Shawn and I just played on our bikes, but did scope out where the last 3 sections for day 2 will be. Today, Mike joined Shari and I and we cleaned brush and put on start and end plates for the 6 day 1 sections. Took the afternoon off. Mike, Shari and I will be at the Day 2 site early in the morning Wednesday and should get the last 3 done. (Shari wants worker points, but I don't know what she will do with them)

Title: Re: hows dickeyville coming whos goin Post by: khub on July 31, 2012, 07:34:20 PM Ok, what is left for Dickeyville is 3 sections for day 2, which I hope to get done Wednesday, then Thursday will work on the final 2 for day 1. That leaves Friday to do any last cleanup and fixing what damage the cows do between now and then.
Title: Re: hows dickeyville coming whos goin Post by: khub on August 01, 2012, 05:00:02 PM Dickeyville Day 2 sections all done except the start and end plates. You can thank Shari for the lack of thorn bushes in the last 3 sections, and she has the scratches on her arms to prove it!

Title: Re: hows dickeyville coming whos goin Post by: khub on August 03, 2012, 08:33:54 AM All Dickeyville sections are made. Sounds like a chance of rain Saturday afternoon, but the Saturday sections are best suited for wet weather, with a lot of the rock bottom creek used. Sunday weather is to be sunny and a little cooler. Should be a good time with friends this weekend. Hope to see you all! Sorry but I didn't plan on any food service, but there is a charcoal grill in the pavillion and I have some charcoal to use if anyone bring something you want cooked, and there is a campfire ring.
Title: Re: hows dickeyville coming whos goin Post by: motodave63 on August 09, 2012, 12:27:23 PM Keith and I took video again last weekend at Dickeyville of the novice line. Saturday I had some technical difficulties so there are only a few sections from the number plate perspective at http://youtu.be/v1nGF51lrg4
Sunday went better with all section filmed from the number plate camera. http://youtu.be/RDugldJ4L4k I had also borrowed a “true” Go Pro camera and filmed most sections until the tree on section 6 ripped it off my helmet, that video can be seen at http://youtu.be/BDUxGQ4zrOU |
