Title: Sept event
Post by: northernnorm on March 12, 2012, 07:48:11 AM
Sep 8/9  I see UMTA has that date so should Mauston got to Sep 1/2   .Possibly wouldnt gain many riders as they have to set up there event besides ride it?  Just thinking the only way to get over 26 riders is to not conflict w/ neighboring clubs , when is NITRO that month?

Ok......here we go again!! ;) Sept. 1st and 2nd are Labor day weekend...so I wouldn't expect a big turnout. All 3 clubs have events scheduled for the 8th and 9th. Nitro has an event scheduled for the 22nd and 23rd and UMTA has an event scheduled for the 29th and 30th. So the only open weekend in  September with no local event scheduled is the 15th and 16th. I hope this helps. 8)

I say we leave the schedule as is.  Many have made their plans already and can't change them now.  We can not avoid every neighboring clubs dates, especially when UMTA has 18 days of contest (NITRO only has 11 days and WOTA has 12).

I say go for it.   9/1 & 9/2 is labor Day weekend, but travel on Sat & Sun is usually pretty good.  Friday & Monday suck.  We use to have Labor Day Trials and had good turnout...problem was usually had Sunday & Monday and then travel home was a nightmare.

Suggestion # 2....make Thielman 9/8 & 9/9 a WOTA points event.  UMTA has counted Hixton & now BRF as a points event for years.  Lets return the favor.  The best way to get people to your events is to go to theirs.

OK  labor day weekend we  often have our big pond party in Elkhorn, so  the week after T man would at least Not rule out the chance od ANY Minnesotanns to venture over , as more trickle over and spread the word I asume they will be more eager to drive .  If it stays on the same days we will have 3 experts and less champs ,which is unacceptable. So I hope K hub  has some flexibility this far ahead of time   I like the 15/16 better than 22/23 as late Sept  we start Soybean harvest.

not to be on the negitive, but lets leave it !!!!!!! tis alot of work AND headace for everyone and me! to change for a couple of more guys! I dont see the real benifit here. it seems to me from talking to the minn, ones that have came here are not useualy going to minn. events anyway cause of conflick from other reasons thats why the have showed up in wis. I AM OPEN TO WOTA POINTS IN MINN. TOO BUT! THE LIKELY HOOD OF MANY WOTA people going that far with the gas prices going up is going to be slim! but just the same I would be open if the majorty wants it , and the event minn has in wis south of lacrosse would be cool to check out. I am hoping to if it is still going on there!. enough changes though!!!!!! Noel you need to get out in the field and off the computor !LOL! just jokin! have a good sunshiny day all it is looking good wheather wise!!!! Jim V

Again I feel if we leave it  a s  a conflicting date we are assured of around 0   riders coming down , remember Jim Altemus ' Baraboo fall  classic  drawing 56 riders that didnt happen with it conflicting  surrounding states. I feel with 6 months lead time  a date change is not  a big difficulty.  My goal with the 2 day fall event is to make it an event that should not be missed ,with improved camping facilities =access to water ,and now some spots in the woods for shade, possibly a bike wash area   extra crazy activities( bike launch, timed event  other contests  ?? live music  ??  So to put loads of work into something for 26 riders is not what I have in mind . Please consider thes desires.

I'm sure we are not a game changer in any event, however ryan and myself planned on coming for the Sept 8-9th event
we are driving from green bay
and i have already asked off from my employer because of the fact of what you posted online
i also am sure we will NOT be attending if it turns out to be Labor Day Weekend.

I'm VERY new to all this but it seems like there are a ton of things going on in the summer and we are all forced to choose something. I'll miss a WOTA trials event so I can make a dual sport ride we do every year. Then later in the year I'll miss a dual sport ride to do a WOTA event LOL! So it seems impossible to try and make everything work for everyone.

I do want to add that you guys do a great job with these events and we can't wait to make more of them this year! We are packed and hitting the road in the morning to TN! TTC here we come!!!

I have learned the Smage Bros riding shows are doing a show the sept/14/15/16 SO moving it later is no good  ,Maybe we will get a number of Southern Canadians to show  and  they will be wanting to return so may work out  a  diff. Theilman date  but  pprobably just stuck with waiting  a nother year to hire the band and m,ake the event most wonderful/

I think the event can still be most wonderful.  I remember a while back Ralph talked about when NITRO was getting smaller and smaller, then they began making sure that the novice and intermediate classes were thought of when making their events. Then they started getting more novice, then intermediate riders.  This is when I started.  I've also seen WOTA numbers start to fall off, then the last couple years both clubs have grown, due to more novice, intermediate, youth and women riders.  Then last year we saw the Advance group boom in size at both clubs, as the new riders from the previous years got better.  I think this is how we will get the top classes filled in the future.  For me, I may never get beyond the Advanced class, but will still have a wonderful time every event. The current group of top riders seem to be moving on to other hobbies etc.  I notice that many of them only attend a couble events a year, so expecting them to then go to other states for events probably will not happen.  Another thing that should turn up the interest in Trials is the publicity from the Smage Brothers Riding Show.  We should see more riders joining this sport, starting at novice and then working their way up, and getting their kids involved to make the future of WOTA even better.

I want to thank Kevin for that! I stuggle at times with this myself doing set ups, it is easy to make it a good and tuff event buttttt, there is something we forget here is that the new people are the ones that we will be keeping us going toooo!!! we need to focus ALITTLE MORE HERE  on the lower classes, making their time with us a injoyable one! A wise man once said to me that draggin his bike thru the whole section just wasnt what he came here for! and that is it in a nut shell,,, if your not having fun why would you expect people to come back? I think we need to find a happy place here, making it more injoyable,,, more do-able with out half killing each other and being so tired that you shot for the day and the second day is going to be a drag because you are still shot from the first! I think we have been alittle tuff on our selves with sections, tecnical is one thing but impossible is another and yes I think we have had a few to many of those, it would be a really nice change to see it lightened up a bit this year! I would think from the advanced on down, especialy for the the lower classes int. and nov. lets try not to kill them this year! the upper class guys can do what ever you want if you think you can do it with out killing yourselves! but I think our Expert class has been alittle much too!   lets not all forget that we are doing this because we think it is fun! so lets remember that we want to have FUN while we are there riding! and not feel like we just got drug over the mountain and back! and that is for all events we host in wota! FUN is the key to what we are doing!  thanks JimV
