Title: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: northernnorm on August 24, 2011, 10:28:55 AM Neww Thread to entice riders to set a side the 9/11 weekend to rock out at my bluff. Just spent 3 very long days working on the sections . I have extended the loop as a 1 way trail along complete East and North side now, uncovering a dozen nice sized rocks that made 4 all new sections 3 as all rides .The trail alone is sweet with 80 foot straight up bluff just feet to your left along the 1st 1/3 of route. There is actually a blacker soil like surface on that side down at base where sections are so not as deep of powder sand until the last ch/ex only crazy double climb. Jim Pres V came and removed many logs on trail to help Nov/Youth save energy for riding sections v.s. trail . We now have energy (a temp. electric service run in) so at very least may blast a home stereo for Karaoke. HUGE F lamin Bonfire for Saturday night ,mongo grills going for burn your own meat dinner. After sections close at 4 pm Saturday we will hash out what extra circular madness to engage in, choices are /wheelie contest(have 2 miles of dead end turny gravel rd to use) timed zig zag uphillclimb ) / big wall freeride comp over where sections 1,2&3 lay since I expect no flat land area in pits to be available with all the camping rigs. There will be a very sizable moon as long as clouds are not. Remember there is almost NO mud so rain does not hurt the ridi ng . Americas Got Talent semifinal act (Smage Bros Riding Shows ) will make an appearance if possible. Bugs are not at all severe like most of 2010 ,So start practicing 2nd and third gear soft turns to attack mode and be at the midwests newest ,groovinest place to ride. Be pumped to be stoked

I plan to come up Thursday night (9-8) to help out with whatever needs to be done on Friday. Unfortunately, I have to leave Friday night and meet Mason up in Crystal Falls, MI for the D16 HS on Saturday morning (I was out-voted 2-1 on this deal). We'll be back for the festivities Saturday afternoon and ride on Sunday.
Are you racing the Endurocross/Trialcross this weekend? If so, we'll see you down there. Good luck to the boys next week! Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: northernnorm on August 26, 2011, 07:54:53 AM No Endurocross for me . Her is a list of potential escuses= Fear of falling Fear of =SIDS/SARS/SAD/ADD/SDS/AIDS actuallly have no good excuse just not going. Why is it so hard for people to get involved in a forum ,if no one shows a little excitement, I will be afraid of a 20 person sighnup!
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: ffchick on August 26, 2011, 08:08:50 AM We'll be there! Sounds fun!!!
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: khub on August 26, 2011, 08:27:15 AM I'm also excited to go there. Probably be there starting Tuesday the 6th to help set up, unless you get so much help before then that there isn't any work left to do. :D
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: northernnorm on August 26, 2011, 10:28:23 AM Ill be there a few days early too, have to get the railing on the deck posts and finish outdoor privy . I have a bout 12 EX/CH sections done some are for ADV also and some are for All classes. I am busy next 2 weekends so any trips will be midweek. Jim and neighbors will most likely get some Nov/Int stuff done but we will just see where things are at the final week. There should be a fair turnout in local bodies I have a concrete crew involved with a cabin foundation and a few neighbors all show interest in seeing an event. Also the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal has a reporter planned to cover it.
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: Hackman3 on August 26, 2011, 04:23:29 PM Barb and I plan on coming up to watch at least one day (but really want to see both days). This will be our first time there and I'm really looking forward to seeing the area. I REALLY wish I could ride but my collar bone still isn't healed so being a spectator is all I'm able to do. I'm also hoping for a good turn out for the event and want to see as many riders as possible.
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: northernnorm on August 27, 2011, 08:09:21 PM Does anyone have a running but otherwise useless beater any kind of bike or moped we could launch off the top opf the bluff into the street? The crazies in Nebraska did that at 2 NATC events where they mark dollar bills w/ you name lay them down where you think bike will come to rest and the closest $ takes all $.

Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: LifeTooShort on August 29, 2011, 09:48:34 PM I have an '83 Shadow 750 that runs, just needs a battery. I am sure we could find something to throw in there for as long as it needs to run.
So who is going to drive it up to the top? Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: JVoigtlander on August 30, 2011, 09:05:51 PM Hey, Ken Koch and I, got there tonite to clean up the loop on the new side! got at least half way through, there is alot of trees in that part! well on the ground anyway, lots of (good rocks) there too! I think we need to weed wack that part more to see more of the rocks!!!! looking Good on that side! I think there is alot more to offer there... found lots of stuff for youth novice and Int on that side, we got rained out, got raining pretty heavy other wise I would have started on the lower class sections, but I will be back . I am going after work this week thurs and maybe sat! anyone want to help call me and come on over, we need some weed eating on the side hills there to find some more stuff hidding in there. looking forward to riding this!
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: northernnorm on August 31, 2011, 06:33:41 PM There is a flat way arouind to the hayfield that lies on top it isnt real far. I dont think the bike will be too good agter 80 ft freefall but if we can avoid insurance worries it would be a memorable 5 minutes. I can spare a weak bettery , bring it if u r coming
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: northernnorm on August 31, 2011, 06:55:36 PM Jim unless my concrete guys think I need to speed up there I will wait and go midweek next. On the NEW north side area be careful about going overboard with cleaning new stuff my wife wants to be sure it doesnt look like TTC soon so leave plenty of ferns flowing. It would be ok if by the 2 large rocks that have no sections by them you found some area to turn those into sections . At the NE corner I thought some chance an EX line could get pretty far up but not too sure .
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: JVoigtlander on August 31, 2011, 08:35:17 PM no weed wacking yet ! just cutting logs for trail, if it didnt rain so much I would have stayed and ribboned some sections 4 lower classes I am going thurs if it dont rain! and maybe sat not to sure about that though I need to finish my fence and may have help comming so that may cut me out on sat. and depending on rain on sunday that may work too.

Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: northernnorm on September 01, 2011, 06:57:59 AM So as not to confuse you use your own dollars can set more than one. The last Nebraska BIKE LAUNCH was actually a pretty nice Fantic section they then had a quick auction where Ryan Young ended up buying it for like a hunred bucks. This one not too sure but my brother has a Japanese road bike collection for spare parts, he would take it. I am not certain if we have a good launch spot where it would makr it too the road plus we would have to block it off for ten minutes but I KNOW I could find some spot to send it . I think the Nebraskies ran along side it and hit a jump , I would rsather tape throttle wfo and slam it in gear but we will see. Does anyone play a mean guitar or know of a decent band that would play for 2 hrs for $400
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: LifeTooShort on September 07, 2011, 12:15:45 PM Got the mighty Shadow running last night, should work well. We will just need a battery at the top of the bluff to start it and then it can be disconnected. Found a small fuel leak from the carb, so it may make the event more interesting.
Noel, do you still want me to bring it? Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: Hackman3 on September 08, 2011, 06:50:59 PM Lifetoshort... I talked to Noel today and he said YES!! he wants you to bring the bike.
Title: Re: Uninteresting updates on Smagical Rock 9/11 event Post by: LifeTooShort on September 08, 2011, 11:02:46 PM Hackman3,
OK. My plans changed a bit due to a clutch hose not fitting (I planned to be there tonight). Anyway, we are going to the UP tomorrow afternoon for a Harescrambles on Saturday AM and then heading down to the trial in the afternoon (~4pm arrival). Please tell Noel (if possible) we'll have the Shadow there then ready for launch! Have him call me if you want. Thanks, Mike 262-909-2919 |
