Title: Difficulty of Lines Post by: uberfraznb on August 23, 2010, 09:25:24 PM Just basing this off of the two events I rode this year (Mtn. Rd. and Dickeyville)... in the EX class we found that both events had extremely challenging (sometimes dangerous) lines setup. I realize that there were not many (or any) upper level riders there to help set up, and I thank those of you who did all the work putting up the sections, but I think we would benefit by stepping it back a notch. During both events we were only able to ride 12-16 sections in the 4 hours we were given due to the difficulty of the sections and the modifications necessary to make them rideable. The scores for the winners were 30 plus points for the few sections that we did ride??? I realize that we want to make the stuff challenging, but nobody is having fun when you are getting beat up and wore out just trying to make it through in one piece. The event should not be decided by who has the least number of 5's.
I am not sure about the other classes (just basing this on our EX/Champ lines at the two events I was at). Again, I thank those of you who set up the sections for all the hard work, the events are made possible by you, and everyone is extremely grateful. Next time hopefully we can ease back a little and we will all have more fun riding. -Bryan Title: Re: Difficulty of Lines Post by: RL 280 on August 24, 2010, 05:27:19 AM Brian makes some good points.......the point I would like to make is.....section set up needs to happen with as many different rider ability's present as possible...... and to show case this I present the Black River Falls event......Set up by 2- expert level riders I found the Sections to be very very good.....even with 9 riders in the class there was separation.....but talking to an intermediate rider that rode the same event he felt their sections to be on the easy side. I also talked to A champ rider after this event and he said it was the most difficult event he had ridden this year
WE NEED TO BE MORE INVOLVED IN SETTING UP THE EVENTS......ALL CLASSES AND ABILITYS AT THIS TIME I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE ....DOLLS ....SMAGES..... THE BARABOO CREW ....BLACKRIVER CREW.....DAN COTTER AND HOMER WEBER.....These people have secured land for us to ride on....and then put in.... MANY hours to bring us these events.....they need us to help.... MORE Ralph Title: Re: Difficulty of Lines Post by: khub on August 24, 2010, 09:00:15 AM I agree with Ralph. Just getting my feet wet this year helping set up sections (in the past I only helped clear brush). Since I am only now just getting to the Advanced level I struggle knowing how to set up the Champ/expert lines. There was nobody helping at Dickeyville above the Advanced level, so we did the best we could. We did have an expert level rider help at Baraboo for the first days sections but not the second. Knowing how much work setting up is I try to help when I can and hope others will too so we can preserve this great sport.
Title: Re: Difficulty of Lines Post by: JVoigtlander on August 24, 2010, 08:45:21 PM :o I hear ya'all there, this is why it would make things so much easyer for everyone IF!!!!! everyone would put in some time helping setting up the events!!!!!!!! I know asked you Bryan if you would show up to help me at Baraboo even just to tell me where to put the arrows for the upper level riders I it would have been a better event on sunday and I would have a chance to learn from you on your level of riding skill. I personaly think that every section that is set up should be tried by every level rider to see how difficult it is to ride, because you can walk through put up arrows all day and say that looks good and looks do able, BUT!!! once you get on your motorcycle and try to ride it you find out that you were smoking something funny while you set that section up!!!! :o :D :-[ ::) are ya with me there>>>? IT TAKES ALOT TO DO ALL THE WORK TO SET THESE THINGS UP! BUT HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE DOING IT AND HOW MANY ARE RIDING IT ! WE ALL NEED TO STOP SITTING ON OUR BUTTS AND GET OUT THERE AND HELP!!!!!!!!! AND THAT MEANS EVERYONE!!! that way if you think it is to tough and want it to be changed then your right there to help do it and say why you think it should be done and HOW it should be done.
in reality there is about 5 guys at each event doing all the work and about 35 guys enjoying it ! while those 5 are draggin butt the day of the ride from all the work! I also thank all those who did all the hard work for getting these events set up! BRF was a blast! great job guys! Pat Doll did a TON of work getting his place ready for a event great job! Noel seems to be the lone rider setting up his events and gettig it done, and that has been a great job! the guys that set up Dickyville/Platteville did a bang up job there too! the second day was a tough rocky one but if you looked at it the whole terrain there has changed so much it made that a huge challenge in it self and they did a great job anyway! If we all want to keep the riding going we all!!! need to help and that means going there and putting in your time and helping and that way you get to ride more too!!!!!! Title: Re: Difficulty of Lines Post by: northernnorm on August 25, 2010, 07:53:11 AM I plan to have Mauston be an event that gathers many more cleans and 1 s than 5 s . For the EX/CH the HIGH part of the loop will be more of an extreme scenic Enduro/Trial type of a ride. Almost no super tight box corners, with hopping ,more of an old school ,flowing, momentum in gears above 1st ,wish I had a 4 stroke type event.
